Target Specific Issues

If your school needs support with specific issues in the classroom, with staff, or with selected students, our coaches can tailor support.

We can support staff with strategies or provide one-on-one support to achieve better outcomes.

Support Curriculum Delivery

The NZ framework for mental health delivery is big - outsource to a MHC.

Our coaches can support your staff in delivering the health curriculum through workshops, games, resources, enabling students to achieve wellness and understanding in this critical subject.

Our coach can cater to the needs of your teachers and school curriculum to deliver specific outcomes and topics.

Improve general Mental Fitness

Learning strategies for stress management, anxiety and wellbeing is crucial for our changing world.

Our coaches can provide one-on-one ongoing support for your staff and students to maintain mental wellbeing.

We can deliver workshops and presentations to your staff or students to cover specific topics on mental fitness wellbeing.

What FLAX Mental Health Coaches can do:

One-on-One for Students

Some of our coaches can provide individualised support for student’s whose wellbeing needs support.

This may have been triggered by an event, disclosure or behaviour incident/s and the school has identified some one-on-one support in mindfulness, emotional regulation, or simply having someone safe to talk to, is the wrap-around support required.

Our coaches can meet the student regularly and work on different techniques, filling the existing gap before high intervention or counsellor support.

FLAX coaches will require parent/guardian consent when working one-on-one with children.

Classroom Strategies

Some of our coaches provide classroom workshops and ongoing support for teachers.

After carefully identifying needs with the teacher, the coach will prepare a presentation and resources to provide an interactive and fun workshop for students.

Our coaches will often cover breathing, mindfulness, acceptance and commitment therapy, what anxiety feels like in the body, depression symptoms (age dependent), strategies for wellness, lifestyle choices such as sleep, nutrition, movement, yoga sessions, managing social media etc.

Our coaches can then provide ongoing support for the teacher in implementing and tweaking these strategies in the classroom.

Staff Workshops

Our coaches can cater to the needs of your school in a variety of workshops. This can be a cost-effective method to achieve results.

Once we have established the needs of your school, our coach can create a presentation or workshop that covers:

  • strategies for calmer classrooms

  • addressing particular concerns in the school environment

  • working with students who present with anxiety

  • wellbeing for staff

  • wellbeing for the school environment (school-wide initiatives such as ‘afternoon mindfulness sessions’

  • addressing staff concerns such as time management, personal health, anxiety, burnout

Our coaches can follow these presentations with one-on-one support with teachers who require it.

One-on-One for Staff

Our coaches can provide individual coaching sessions for staff members.

Coaches can address the health and mental wellbeing issues that your staff are facing in a series of sessions.

Coaches can work with mild-to-moderate anxiety and depression, lifestyle factors such as sleep, stress, movement, nutrition, weight management, metabolic condition management and other health factors.

Prioritising the wellbeing of your staff will pay dividends in the wellbeing of your school.

Our coaches are able to work onsite or online to meet the needs of your teachers and support staff.

Our coaches can also provide Principal Wellbeing packages with one-on-one weekly/fortnightly coaching, using your school’s Principal Wellbeing fund.

The wellbeing of our students is the core of our Triangle of Care -our coaches can support educators and whanau with workshops, resources, newsletter content etc to ensure that a holistic approach supports our tamariki and their wellbeing.

Each of our FLAX coaches is an independent certified and practicing mental health coach, running their own business. They also each bring a different background they are able to draw on, providing a unique service. They work in their own towns or online to provide their services. Some of the above options may not be available from all coaches.

Our coaches do not work with severe health conditions and will outline to you from the outset how they will identify anything that arises outside their scope.

FLAX is a registered NZ charity, supporting Mental Health Coaches to provide quality and professional education and support in NZ schools. All of our coaches are qualified professional Mental Health Coaches, accredited with HCANZA, follow ICF coaching guidelines & the NZ Privacy Act and are police-vetted if working one-on-one with children.
